Life Skills – 28th August 2019

We had a discussion on what things/skills learners would like to learn in school – that is not currently taught/part of the curriculum; that they feel can help prepare them for life after school?  For example Life skills, how to set up a budget, Job interview preparation, Personal financing, how to apply for a study loan/bursary, etc.

Matric Dance – 28th August 2019

In this week’s podcast Alrick and Megan interviewed some Matric learners and had a discussion on the upcoming matric farewell. They discussed the things they are looking forward to most, challenges, how you go about planning your outfit and choosing your means of transport to make your entrance, choosing a date/partner etc.  They also made some suggestions on how to improve high school matric farewell’s, new ideas on how to do things differently in the future, types of food learners prefer at such an event etc.

Abortion – 10th March 2019

We have a thought-provoking discussion on Abortion this week. Nicola van Tellingen chairs the discussion amongst a number of Grade 12’s. Because it is the ideas we wish to emphasise, we felt that it was not important to explain whose viewpoint it was.

Conflict Between Learners and Educators – 28th January 2019

Learner violence against educators – A number of incidents have been reported at the Dept. of education in numerous provinces the previous year – teachers being attacked physically and even killed by learners. We cannot live in a society where our teachers teach in fear of the learners sitting in front of them. Hatties shared their perspective and opinions on this matter.
