Technical VS Academic – 15th February 2019

Being in a Technical school – What is the difference between a technical and normal academic school. What are the benefits of being in a technical school? What are the challenges of being in a technical school? Learners with a pure technical focus/career dream as well as learners that do not want to go into a technical career were involved in the podcast. We wanted to find out from them why they chose the school – especially if not focused on a technical career – also about difficulties they struggle with etc.

Conflict Between Learners and Educators – 28th January 2019

Learner violence against educators – A number of incidents have been reported at the Dept. of education in numerous provinces the previous year – teachers being attacked physically and even killed by learners. We cannot live in a society where our teachers teach in fear of the learners sitting in front of them. Hatties shared their perspective and opinions on this matter.

Responsibility of being an adult – 6th December 2018

Being a senior/turning 18 comes with a lot of pressure/responsibilities, not only do parents expect of teens to start acting and behaving like adults/grown-ups and be as responsible as adults should be – they might also pressure them to take more responsibilities. Sometimes parents expect their kids to behave like adults – without giving them the freedom that comes with adulthood…

Technology in Schools – 6th December 2018

Should the use of technology be promoted or limited in schools? Looking at the broad scope influences that stuff like cell phones, tablets, tech pads, drawing pads would have on the learning experience and so forth. ALSO focusing on what makes Technical schools different from normal schools – elaborating on technical subjects and the practical side/projects and how kids approach it. Basically so that the listener can learn what kids do in technical schools.

Exams – 28th May 2018

With the June exam commencing this week our host asked some grade 11 and 12 learners (Francois Conradie, Angelique de Necker, Nikita de Jager, Carin-Lee Noble, Oliver Botwood, Dicanio Petersen and Antonio Orange which subject(s) they most dread studying for and writing in the exam and why… Also which subject(s) they enjoy most and get the best marks for and if they approach these subjects differently. Furthermore, what their opinion is on the influence a negative/positive attitude towards a certain subject may have on final results.

Society’s Perception of Beauty – 24th April 2018

In today’s podcast, our hosts Sasha de Voux and Bronwyn Witbooi discuss society’s perception of beauty with Nathan Van Wyk, Kamo Vezi and Chad Batist.

We address how society sees people thanks to our use of filters and effects on pictures, how people see us as people if we use social media to seek acceptance. It covers opinions on what we should rather seek in each instead of our outer appearances, and how social media influences the way we think and perceive beauty.

We measure the importance of self-acceptance and the saying “those we matter don’t care, and those who care don’t matter”.

This week , our team talk with Olivia Roberts, Nathan Van Wyk, Zaakira Isaacs, Ande Lugulwana, Kaylin Fourie and Catia Stephanus  is about Maths Tech. They ask questions regarding the choices that were made in Grd 10 for the subjects technical mathematics and technical science. Some institutions will not recognise these subjects and the discussions went around how the learners feel about it.

Presenting – Covered SA – HTS’s own Cover Band – 14th February 2018

This afternoon’s podcast was co-hosted by Sasha De Voux & Bronwyn Witbooi. The podcast was an interview of the BTHS school band, Covered SA – which included TJ Hendricks, Jay-Cee Wenn, Chané Sass and Rochelé Bock. During the interview, we learnt about the origin of the band, and how each of the bandmates became who they are because of music and how it has influenced and been included in their lives. We also learnt about their music director, TJ Hendricks’ past musical career and also their upcoming plans as a band.
